WRECK — Documentation

Overview

WRECK destroys audio in the most musical ways possible. Reduce bit depth down to 1-bit dust. Decimate the sample rate to dial frequencies. Smear jitter across the clock. Mangle wavecycles at the zero-crossing level. Every form of digital degradation in one place.


Bitcrusher

Bit depth reduction from 24 down to 1.

ControlDescription
BitsBit depth from 24 (clean) to 1 (square wave). Lower values produce harsher quantization steps.
Dead ZoneWidens the zero-crossing dead zone, adding grit and silence between quantization steps. At higher values, quiet parts of the signal are squashed to zero.
DitherOff, TPDF, or Noise-Shaped. Dither adds subtle noise to reduce harsh quantization artifacts. TPDF is transparent; Noise-Shaped pushes dither energy into less audible frequencies.
Quant ModeSelects the rounding algorithm: Round, Truncate, Floor, AM-Biased, or Log. Each produces a different harmonic character — Round is cleanest, Log is most aggressive.

Sample Rate Reducer

Decimate the sample rate from full resolution down to aliased chaos.

ControlDescription
RateSample rate from full down to extreme decimation. Lower values create staircase-style waveforms and introduce aliasing.
Sample Hold ModeControls the interpolation between samples during rate reduction. Changes the character of the staircase effect.
JitterAdds clock instability, randomizing the sample timing. Creates analog-style degradation and wobble.
Tempo SyncLocks sample rate reduction to host tempo for rhythmic, beat-synced decimation effects.

Cycle Mangler

Operates on individual wavecycles at zero-crossing points. This is where WRECK gets weird — it detects each cycle of the incoming waveform and reshapes it.

ControlDescription
Cycle ModeOff, Formant, Reform, Hold, or Reverse. Each mode cuts and reshapes wavecycles differently. Formant imposes spectral shape. Reform rebuilds cycles. Hold freezes them. Reverse flips them.
AmountHow aggressively cycles are mangled. Low values subtly reshape; high values destroy.
ShapeCrossfade blend between original and mangled cycles. Acts as a wet/dry for the cycle processing.
SensZero-crossing detection sensitivity. Lower values detect more cycles (tighter tracking); higher values only catch larger waveforms (looser, more dramatic).
Stereo LinkWhen on, both channels share cycle detection so the stereo image stays coherent. When off, each channel is processed independently — wider but potentially phase-shifted.

Drive

Push and offset the signal before it hits the destruction chain.

ControlDescription
DriveInput saturation. Pushes the signal harder into the processing for denser, louder destruction.
BiasDC offset that shifts the waveform asymmetrically. Creates even harmonics and changes how the bitcrusher and cycle mangler respond to the signal.
AliasAdds deliberate aliasing artifacts back into the signal. Useful when you want the harshness that oversampling removes.
OversampleOff, 2x, or 4x. Higher oversampling cleans up unwanted aliasing for more precise, controlled destruction. Use it when you want the tone without the fizz.

Filters

Pre and post filters bracket the destruction chain. Shape what goes in, shape what comes out.

ControlDescription
Pre CutoffLowpass filter before processing. Limits what frequencies enter the destruction — roll off highs to get warmer crush, or leave it open for full-spectrum damage.
Pre QResonance of the pre-filter. Higher values create a peak at the cutoff frequency before processing.
Post CutoffLowpass filter after processing. Tames harsh aliasing artifacts or shapes the final tone.
Post QResonance of the post-filter. Use it to add a resonant character to the output.

Mix & Output

ControlDescription
MixDry/wet blend. At 50% you get parallel destruction — the clean signal mixed with the processed signal.
OutputOutput gain to compensate for level changes from processing.
RandomizeGenerates a random preset. Tap it to discover unexpected sounds.
BypassBypasses all processing. Use it to A/B the effect against the clean signal.

Formats

  • AUv3 — runs inside AUM, GarageBand, ApeMatrix, Audiobus, or any AUv3 host. Multiple instances supported, each with independent settings.
  • Standalone — runs as its own iOS app with built-in audio routing.

Requires: iOS 16.0 or later. iPhone and iPad.
