WRECK

WRECK is a bitcrusher and sample-rate reducer with a wavecycle mangler. The mangler finds each cycle of the incoming wave and cuts, repeats, reverses or rebuilds it. A filter before the damage and one after it shape what goes in and what comes out.

Cycle modes

• Formant: plays each captured cycle back faster, which shifts the pitch and the formants up.
• Reform: swaps each cycle for a sine of the same level, blended with the original.
• Hold: repeats one cycle for several cycles before it grabs a new one.
• Reverse: plays some cycles backwards, at random.

Controls

• Bits: bit depth from 16 down to 2. Five quantization modes: Round, Truncate, Floor, AM-Biased and Log.
• Dead Zone: silences everything quieter than a threshold before it is crushed.
• Dither: Off, TPDF or Noise-Shaped.
• Rate: the sample rate, from 22,050 Hz down to 100 Hz. Jitter randomizes the length of each held sample, and Sync ties the rate to the host tempo.
• S&H mode: Hard, Lin or Slew. Sets what the output does between held samples.
• Amount, Shape and Sens: how hard the cycle mode works, how much saturation and wavefolding is added to the cycles, and how easily a new cycle is detected.
• Drive and Bias: up to 18 dB of gain into a soft clipper, and a DC offset before it.
• Alias and Oversample: Alias blends in the version of the drive stage that was not oversampled. Oversample is Off, 2x or 4x.
• Pre and Post filters: a resonant low-pass before and after the damage.
• Mix and Output: dry/wet blend, and output level from minus 24 to plus 12 dB.
• RND: randomizes every setting except Mix, Output and Bypass.

Formats

• iPhone and iPad: an AUv3 in AUM, GarageBand, Logic or any other AUv3 host, plus a standalone app. Needs iOS 14 or later.
• Mac and Windows: VST3 and CLAP, plus AU on Mac.
